10:10–11:00

What Is Science? What Is Faith?

Speaker to be announced

11:00–12:00

Sustainability from a Biblical Perspective

Dr Kaplan

Sustainability refers to using natural resources consciously and responsibly, without jeopardizing the needs of future generations. In Christianity, nature is not a resource humanity possesses by chance but a gift entrusted to humankind by God.

Lunch

13:00–14:00

Are Natural Disasters Inevitable?

Prof. Robert (Bob) White

Natural hazards, a consequence of the very processes that make Earth habitable, are frequently turned into disasters by poor human choices. This talk considers how scientific and religious insight together can inform our response to disaster.

14:00–15:00

A Scientist’s View on the Beauty of Creation

Prof. Sarah Perrett

Beauty, awe, and wonder are themselves motivations for scientific inquiry. This talk explores how faith inspires scientific study, and how science in turn enriches faith.

15:00–15:30

Coffee Break

15:30–16:30

Can a Scientist Believe in Miracles?

Dr Denis Alexander

Nearly all who established the foundations of modern science believed in miracles. This talk argues that belief in miracles, understood biblically, is rational, while encouraging careful assessment of miraculous claims poorly supported by evidence.
